Overview
Southern Highlands is among the most exclusive private clubs in Southern Nevada. The 7,381-yard par-72 layout (74.4 rating / 138 slope) carries a Carolina-pines motif — elaborate sprawling bunkers, kinetic water features, and severe elevation change, including an 11th tee perched roughly ten stories above its fairway with an unobstructed view of the Las Vegas Strip.
History
Course history
Southern Highlands Golf Club opened in 2000, billed as a co-design between Robert Trent Jones Jr. and his father, Robert Trent Jones Sr. Construction began in 1998; the elder Jones died in 2000. The club anchors the gated Southern Highlands community south of Las Vegas and serves as the home course of UNLV's golf program.
Design
Design philosophy
The Joneses imported a Carolina-parkland aesthetic to the desert — pines, lavish bunkering, and water — amplified by extreme elevation change that a flat site could never provide.
