The Course

Overview

Coyote Springs Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus Signature course set in the remote high desert about an hour northeast of Las Vegas. Known as The Chase, the 7,471-yard par-72 layout (75.8 rating / 141 slope) winds through natural washes and eleven lakes, offering championship golf in near-total seclusion.

History

Course history

Coyote Springs opened in 2008 as The Chase, the first golf course in the master-planned Coyote Springs community and a Jack Nicklaus Signature design executed with Nicklaus Design's Chet Williams. It was named one of the 'Best New Courses of 2008' by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Travel+Leisure Golf, and later earned a Golf Digest Top 100 ranking.

Design

Design philosophy

Nicklaus used the broad, untouched desert valley to create a course of scale and seclusion, framing holes with natural washes, native vegetation and eleven lakes. Generous corridors off the tee give way to demanding, well-defended green complexes — strategic interest comes from angles and water, not from claustrophobic forced carries.

The Round

The course journey

I.

The Opening

The opening holes introduce Coyote Springs' sense of space, with wide fairways set against an empty desert horizon. Players ease into the round before the water features and Nicklaus green complexes begin asserting themselves.

II.

The Middle

Through the middle of the round the eleven lakes and native washes increasingly frame the strategy, putting a premium on club selection and committed lines. The terrain rolls and the green complexes tighten, asking for precise approach play.

III.

The Finish

The closing holes deliver the course's championship test, with water and length combining from the 7,471-yard tips. The finish rewards players who have managed their game and still have the discipline to attack the right pins.

How to Play It

Playing strategy by skill

Beginner / High Handicap

Move up to a comfortable tee set and use the generous fairway corridors — Coyote Springs gives you room off the tee. Steer clear of the lakes, take the safe side into the greens, and enjoy the isolation rather than forcing aggressive carries.

Intermediate / Mid Handicap

Position your tee ball to open the best angle past the water hazards, and respect the well-defended Nicklaus greens. Smart bail-out sides exist on most holes; knowing where the miss is safe will save more strokes than chasing distance.

Advanced / Low Handicap

From 75.8/141, Coyote Springs demands accuracy around eleven lakes and firm, contoured greens. Take on the water only when the reward is clear, control trajectory into exposed putting surfaces, and let the layout's length test your long game on the closing stretch.
