The Course

Overview

Cascata is sculpted from canyon walls in Boulder City, featuring one of the most dramatic golf settings in the desert. Rees Jones' design utilizes vertical elevation changes exceeding 300 feet, creating a course that feels more like climbing a golf mountain than playing a golf course. The dramatic waterfalls, native desert landscape, and exclusive membership combine to create an unparalleled luxury golf experience.

Design

Design philosophy

Jones designed Cascata around the natural canyon topology, maximizing dramatic elevation changes and scenic vistas. The course embraces the vertical landscape with holes that plummet into canyons and climb back out. Strategic bunkering frames each hole, water features cascade naturally, and the conditioning reflects exclusive membership standards. Every hole offers distinct visual drama.

The Round

The course journey

I.

The Opening

The opening holes establish the elevation narrative, offering relatively gentle introduction before the terrain becomes more aggressive. Holes 1-3 play at upper elevation with generous fairways. Hole 4 begins the descent, and by hole 5 players are experiencing significant elevation loss, setting up a dramatic par-3 over a canyon to a remote green.

II.

The Middle

The middle holes traverse the deepest canyon sections. Hole 8 is the iconic waterfall par-3, where water cascades beside the tee box and frames a dramatic approach. Holes 9-11 climb back out of the canyon, with 11 offering dramatic elevated views back across the property. This section is the defining character of Cascata.

III.

The Finish

The back nine settles into upper elevation with less dramatic but still challenging closing holes. The 17th and 18th offer views back to the canyon, finishing the round with a sense of completion and accomplishment.

How to Play It

Playing strategy by skill

Beginner / High Handicap

Cascata is genuinely difficult for higher handicaps due to elevation changes, distance, and dramatic canyon holes. Club selection relative to elevation is critical — balls fly longer at lower elevation, shorter at upper elevation. Conservative play and center-of-fairway focus is wise. The par-3s over canyons demand accuracy.

Intermediate / Mid Handicap

Mid-handicap golfers should respect the elevation. A club longer at elevation may be appropriate. Focus on staying in the fairway — recovery from the canyon-side rough is extremely difficult. The course rewards straight hitting more than distance. Take pars and celebrate them.

Advanced / Low Handicap

Elite golfers recognize the course as a test of accurate ball-striking and elevation management. The bunkering is sophisticated and strategic. The canyon holes offer risk-reward opportunities for creative play. The dramatic setting shouldn't distract from technical execution.
