The Course

Overview

The Summit Club is an ultra-private Discovery Land Company community anchoring a Tom Fazio championship course beside Red Rock Canyon in Summerlin. The 7,459-yard par-72 layout (75.7 rating / 143 slope) plays across dramatic desert-foothill terrain less than ten miles from the Strip, with access reserved for members and their guests.

History

Course history

The Summit Club opened its Tom Fazio golf course in 2017 as the centerpiece of a 555-acre ultra-private community developed by the Discovery Land Company in partnership with The Howard Hughes Corporation. Set against the Red Rock National Conservation Area, it represents one of the most exclusive golf addresses in Las Vegas.

Design

Design philosophy

Fazio routed the course through the natural desert foothills, using elevation change and the Red Rock backdrop to create both visual drama and strategic variety. As with Fazio's best work, generous-looking corridors disguise subtle demands at the green, where contour and angle determine scoring.

The Round

The course journey

I.

The Opening

The round opens across rolling foothill terrain with the Red Rock escarpment framing the early holes. Fazio gives players room to settle in before the elevation changes and green contours sharpen the test.

II.

The Middle

Through the middle the course uses elevation decisively, with downhill and uphill shots altering club selection and stance. Fazio's strategic bunkering and tilted green complexes reward players who think about angles rather than simply attacking flags.

III.

The Finish

The closing stretch plays to the layout's full 7,459-yard scale, with the foothills and desert framing a demanding finish. Precision into firm, contoured greens separates a strong round from an average one.

How to Play It

Playing strategy by skill

Beginner / High Handicap

From a forward set the Summit's wide corridors are welcoming despite the elevation — focus on keeping the ball in play and reading the slopes. Take what the downhill holes give you and avoid the desert edges.

Intermediate / Mid Handicap

Account for elevation on nearly every approach and favor the safe side of Fazio's tilted greens. The course rewards players who manage the slopes and the strategic bunkering rather than chasing distance.

Advanced / Low Handicap

At 75.7/143 the Summit demands trajectory control on dramatic elevation shifts and precision into firm, contoured greens. Use the angles Fazio built in, judge the wind off the foothills, and attack only when the line and lie justify the risk.
